In case you have not already read about the Washington Post's report on Honduras and the famous Gringo "Karlos", you should check out the article.

It is mostly a romantic view of the countryside & Honduras. However, it does talk a bit about the areas that I enjoyed and knew well. I must comment on the coffee of the locals vs the coffee for export! The quality coffee drunk for export vs the locally toasted coffee is like comparing Bordeaux wine to box wine. There is just no way to compare the taste; albeit the personalized and family feel of locally brewed & produced coffee makes it a much better experience. Still, you can get that feel with an expert cupper & better equipment at the coops, while having the local personal connections that everyone wants, yet businesses rarely offer. For all her planning & drivers, her trip was unfortunately taken during the start of the rainy season, which left her spending nearly her whole time inside. Do not travel through Honduras, especially the countryside (mud!), during the rainy season!
